About Us
The Diotiman Society is a student-led community dedicated to making the world of Classics more accessible to a diverse group of high school students by cultivating a deeper connection with translated works of antiquity. We invite young enthusiasts to participate in our bi-monthly sessions, where we engage in lively, in-depth discussions on a wide range of philosophical topics and Greek and Latin texts, from Hesiod’s Pandora to the poems of Sulpicia.

Inspired by Diotima of Mantinea, the philosopher and "priestess" who appears in Plato's Symposium, we embrace her belief that love is a transformative force capable of expanding our collective wisdom and understanding. In our group readings, we place a special emphasis on amplifying the voices of overlooked female philosophers and other historically marginalized groups. Through this initiative, our goal is to foster a more diverse and inclusive exploration of the Classics, promoting equality and fresh perspectives within this academic field.
